Title: A peek at the classification of algebraic varieties
Abstract: In this talk we give a gentle introduction to the main ideas on the (birational) classification of algebraic varieties as proposed by Shigefumi Mori in the 80s. The framework of the classification is what is known today as the Minimal Model Program, which is a far-reaching conjecture in birational geometry aiming at the construction of a "good representative" (minimal model) of any given complex projective variety.
